Review Of Blackfish By Mahalia Burford - 1231 Words
Blackfish is a controversial documentary that tells the story of Tilikum, a performing killer whale that killed several trainers while in captivity. This then led to a court case between Sea World and OSHA, the ââ¬Å"Occupational Safety and Health Administrationsâ⬠. The CNN documentary also shines a light on the negative effects of taking orcas away from their natural habitats and placing them into captivity for extended periods of time. Blackfish is emotionally captivating and caused many individuals to question what they know about nature and the intelligent orca whales. The artifact I chose to analyze is a scholarly article, ââ¬Å"Response to Blackfish: A Case for SeaWorldâ⬠, by Mahalia Burford. Discourse is the formal discussion of a subject inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Consequently, the implied speaker would then be the representativesââ¬â¢ of Sea World and the individuals that are in support of the theme park and the business they have. After the airing of Bl ackfish, SeaWorld was under a lot of questioning and criticism. This article speaks for those that believe SeaWorld is not at fault for holding the orca whales in captivity and conditioning them for performances, which has become recently controversial. The intended audience of this artifact would be the makers and supporter of the CNN documentary, Blackfish because the speaker is bringing up many arguments and facts that were not discussed in the documentary. This article is also intended for those whom believe that SeaWorld is harming their orcas and endangering the trainers. The actual audience would be any individual that reads this article to learn more about the history behind the theme park and the issues that have recently been addressed concerning the documentary. This audience has been continuously growing because of the new information and news about the health and safety of marine mammals. The occasion of this article is based on the release of Blackfish in July of 2013. The article would not have had such an impact as if it was written before the opening of the film.
