The Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. - 1123 Words
Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968) was known as an activist and a remarkable leader for African Americans throughout the Civil Rights Movement. He was put in jail for his non-violent civil rights campaigns, spoke out for racial justice, and tried to find an end to racial discrimination. Kingââ¬â¢s legacy is still known present day, and continues to be one of the most well known leaders. Throughout Martin Luther King Jr.ââ¬â¢s lifetime and the Civil Rights Movement, King was devoted to abolish segregation, while bringing equality and justice for his fellow African Americans. With the use of Civil Disobedience, Martin Luther King Jr. was able to end segregation and bring justice to African Americans, while using Mohandas K. Gandhiââ¬â¢s philosophy of a non-violent approach, which used more strength than violence. Established in 1957 after the Montgomery bus boycott ended, the Southern Christian Leadership was formed in Atlanta, Georgia, and Martin Luther King Jr. was the president. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, also known as SCLC, was formed to end discrimination towards African Americans with the use of Gandhiââ¬â¢s philosophy of non-violent protesting or civil disobedience. Green House Gas Emission Using BI
Question: Discuss about the Green House Gas Emission Using BI. Answer: Introduction: This report is about the analysis of the data regarding a global environmental issue using the Business Analytics tools. The software package used for preparing this report is the IBM Cognos Cloud Platform. In the area of the global environmental issues, the global warming is the most dangerous issue. The main reason of the global warming is the emission of different types of green house gases (Joos et al., 2013). The level of CO2 and other harmful gases is gradually increasing in the global environment. In this context, the study has been done with the data regarding the different types of gas emissions done by different countries in the world. The data has been collected from 142 different countries across the globe. Green house gases are used as one variable (GHG), where the total amount of these gases are represented in a quantitative value (Maroto-Valer, Song Soong, 2012). Other harmful gas emissions taken in to consideration are CO2, VOC, CO and SOX. The analyses of the data w ith the help of the dashboard developed in Cognos are given in this report. BI Reporting: It has seen that the study of global warming issue is not a novel study in the area of science. It has also become apparent that the green house gas or the GHG are the major reason for global warming. When several studies have shown that global warming is the natural process, there is no doubt that emission of green house gases largely affects the economy. All over the world, the industrial revolution had play the crucial role in CO2 being released. It can be said that CO2 has significant impact on global warming because of the existing abundance in the atmosphere. Other green house gases like CO2 starting from Methane, Sulpherdioxaide, Carbon Monoxaideetc largely release from burning fossil fuel (Smith et al., 2013). Worldwide, the emission of greenhouse gas is a source of severe concern. String from the industrial revolution time, there is a gradual increment of emission of green house gas. In this context, according to the NASA report it can be seen that the level of CO2 increased by 38%. At the same time, the emission of other green house gas increased a whopping 148 %. Under such circumstances, it become essential to report the level of green house gas emission so that the current picture of green house emission can be understood (Liu et al., 2012). In order to understand the emission of green house gas all over the world, this report thus considered the emission of CO2, CO, SOX, VOC and GHG during 2012 for 142 countries. In order to report the emission rate of all the selected nations, Cognos BI tool has been utilized (Sharda, Delen Turban, 2013). The reporting considered each greenhouse gas individually and then prepared a dashboard to get a clear picture. The dashboard helped to understand the insight meaning of the huge amount of raw data at a glance. The detailed analyses of the charts of the dashboard are given in the section below: Figure 2: Emission of GHG gases (Source: Created by the author) As per the analysis done in this study, the highest contributor of the GHG gases is Australia and the lowest amount of GHG gas emitted in to the global environment by Qatar, Oman, USA and some other countries. As per the data considered for this analysis, the amount of GHG gas emission by Tanzania, Albania, Angola, Armenia and Argentina is 0. In the position of second highest contributor of the GHG gases in the global environment are many. Same condition in the third position has been found in the graph developed in the dashboard. The GHG emission by Australia is too high, which is a major threat to the environment of the country as well as the whole world (Ward et al., 2013). High level of dependency on the technical equipments for the daily life of the people is one of the major reason of the high rate of GHG emission in the environment. In this context, a poor environment consciousness has been found in this country. The data considered in this report is of the year of 2012. Howev er, the country has started some environmental development activities and trying to reduce the emission of the green house gases. In this context, the research and development activities of the country is mentionable. The country is investing a lot of money in the area of alternative technology solution which may able to produce less amount of green house gases. The gap between the countries in the third position and the fourth-fifth positions is very high (Peters Romi, 2014). It can be said that the countries, which are in between the fourth and last position have contribute little amount of GHGs but the countries in the higher position are really emitted major amount of GHGs in the environment. This is a big threat to the global environmental damage. Peak value of the CO2 has been emitted in the environment by Qatar. Other countries like Kuwait, Bahrain, Luxembourg have contributed a large volume of CO2 in the environment. The amount of CO2 contributed by Qatar is very high as compared to other countries considered in this report. Even the country is the second position has a huge difference with this country. This gas is one of the most harmful gases among the green house gases. The increasing among of this gas is also responsible for the global warming. The high volume of CO2 is also very dangerous for all the living animals including the human beings in the planet. Therefore, the countries in the upper section of the graph represented above must look into this figure. The issue is gradually increasing the global environment is getting hampered due to this gas emission (Harrison et al., 2015). Necessary steps must be taken immediately fo r balancing the level of CO2 in the environment. Figure 4: Emission of VOC (Source: Created by the author) Another important component behind the global environmental damage is the Volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These are the organic chemicals, which have high level of vapour pressure. The emission of VOCs is not as harmful as the other gases considered in this report, but this has high level of impact on the health of both human and plants. Research work regarding the amount of VOCs emitted into the air is quite difficult work (Gerber, Henderson Makkar, 2013). Very few amount of data available regarding the emission of this. The diagram given above also shows lack of data for the level of VOCs emission. As per the analysis of the available data, the maximum amount of VOCs has been contributed to the environment is Chile. The amount of VOCs emission by this country is so large than the other countries. There are some other countries also, which are contributing significant amount of VOCs in the air such as Canada, Australia, USA, New Zealand, Israel and others. The other countries ar e in the medium level, which can be managed. However, they have to keep the level low. The above graph is showing the amount of CO emitted by the countries considered in this report. The highest amount of CO emission has been done by Ice land. The amount of CO emission in the year of 2012 is very high than all the other considered here. This is a very harmful gas to the human beings and all other living animal of the planet (Stewart et al., 2013). The increasing rate of this gas should be minimized for balancing the environmental condition of the whole world. After the highest contributor of this gas, there are 12 other countries, which are in the second position in the graph represented by the data considered for this study. Australia, USA and New Zealand are in the third and onwards position regarding this gas emission. The contribution of other harmful gases are also high for these countries. Therefore, the analysis is saying that these countries are performing very poor environmental development related a ctivities than the other countries of this report. Figure 6: Emission of SOX (Source: Created by the author) The analysis of the emission of SOX is again giving the name of Iceland as the top most contributor of the gas. In this picture, it has been seen again that the country has a huge difference with the emission level of other countries. Australia is in the second highest contributor of the SOX. After the second position, there are 13 countries in the similar level in SOX emission. New Zealand and USA are also not in very lower position in emitting the SOX. After analyzing the data regarding the SOX emission by the countries, it has been found that USA, Australia and New Zealand have been found in the top list in every type of green house emission. Therefore, it can be considered that these countries are contributing major amounts in the environmental damage of the countries as well as the whole world. The government and the common people of these countries should focus in the area of the green house gas emissions in the environment of the whole world. Recommendations: It has become clear from the above discussion that the emission rate is quite high in some selected nations. Therefore, they needs to devise proper long term strategic plan so that the emission rate remain under control. In order to mitigate the emission rate, the developed nations already implements innovative instruments. However, developing nations that are generating more amount of green house gases needs to consider novel strategies. Below are the strategies that can be utilized to mitigate the issue of green house gas emission. There are several institutions like LEDS, NAMAs build different frameworks to control the greenhouse gas emission. While LEDS provide strategic framework, NEMAs are prominently dealt with government policies to monitor the green house gas emission rate both at the industrial as well as residential level. In addition to this they are also supporting developing nations in terms of access to fund, initiating transformation process, etc. Therefore, it can be said that the developing nations is requiring to establish reporting agency or to join such leading institutions as early as possible. The concept of MRV can also be utilized by the developing nations. Though the development of MRV as well as application of MRV is challenging in the developing nations, it can be assumed that the collection of necessary information related to green house gas emission, preparing green house gas inventories emission projection will support them to implement successful MRV strategy. Conclusion: The analyses of the amount of green house gas emissions have been done in this report. The countries which are contributing the higher amounts of green house gases have been identified and the sections of their contributions are also identified. The analysis have been conducted with the BI tools of IBM Cognos. Thus to conclude it can be said that reporting the major environmental issue namely the green house gas emission using Cognos BI helped to identify the recent trend in green house gas emission as well as to make strategic decision. Use of business intelligence tool also makes the reporting live even if the report consists of large amount of data. Hence, it can be said that use of such business intelligence tool is effective to make reporting in a proper way. Based on the analysis done in thus report with the help of the BI tools of Cognos, some recommendations have been given for decreasing the green house gas emissions and develop a healthier environment.
